Surfing the crimson wave? 2 Period Products and the App You Need!

Updated: Jun 26, 2022

Hello ladies,

You’re on your period or it’s almost time for your period, what do you need? Well, keep reading for 2 products and the app you need when you’re on your period.

Disclaimer: All the products I am going to mention, I have first hand experience with and recommend with the upmost esteem because I have had great experiences with these products. In no way have these brands influenced me to talk positively about the products. I only recommend products I would buy and have brought myself. These are just recommendations and my opinion.

My favorite way to describe my period is surfing the crimson wave. Thank you Cher.

To me, surfing the crimson wave was an iconic line from Clueless. If you haven't watched Clueless, please please please do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP!

Let's go over some period facts.

Periods usually start between age 11 and 14 and continue until menopause at about age 51. They usually last from three to five days. That means if you start your period at 11 years old and go through menopause at 51, you could experience over 400 periods. YIKES.

Yes, periods are a part of life, but that doesn't mean we don't deserve all the comfort in the world when we surf the crimson wave.

FIRST OF ALL, download the Clue App. There are a lot of period tracking apps, I have always used Clue. The app has so many different options for tracking, not just your period. I have used this app since 2019 when I got off birth control. Prior to that, I tried the shot, the pill, and the mini pill. The shot stopped my period completely and my personal experience was not great. It changed me completely and didn't help my emotional state of mind. As soon as I got off and months after all the chemicals left my body, I got my period again and started tracking my cycle.

Why is it important to track your monthly cycle?

There is so much science behind our periods that we seem to ignore. We as woman have been told that our periods are a con AND to carry on as if it was no big deal. When I started learning more about my period and cycle and how my body is different throughout the month, it changed the way I worked out, ate, and behaved towards myself.

There are four phases of our cycles: menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. Why does this matter? It is because our bodies are so different through each part! I plan to cover more on each part in future posts.

This post is mainly focused on menstruation, BUT there are things we can do to make menstruation easier on our bodies throughout the month, the Clue App helps with this!

So you're probably wondering what products you need for your period, well keep reading!

What do you need

when you're on your period?

There’s two products I live by when I have my period.

  1. L. Period Care Pads and Tampons

  2. Menstrual Discs

These products are worth the splurge and I would say spend the money on it!

Keep reading to find out why!

If you have never had a rash from your pad, you’re blessed!! I may have sensitive skin, but L. Pads saved me. I fully believe it is because they are 100% cotton. I have used a lot of brands and had different issues, but I can honestly say this has been best for me down there.

I also used their tampons. Their original applicator was not ideal and sometimes it wouldn't actually insert the tampon and you would end up using your fingers. The new applicator works way better and I am happy they did change it.

So if you get rashes from your pad, try L. Period pads!

If you don't like using pads or have a heavier period, a menstrual disc may be the product you're looking for!

When I was in college, period cups became really popular. I considered trying them, but then a friend of mine told me her horror story experience and I just knew it wasn't for me. But I am lazy so I was looking for a product that would allow me to go all day (12 hours) without having to stop to change my pad or tampon. One day I came across period discs.

Period discs were very easy to put in before work and wear all day and then come home and take it out... I recommend doing this in the shower and just remember... it does involve a lot of blood.

You can see what they look like below. If you're confused on how it works, click this link to go to the Flex website !

I have found period discs to be very helpful. I recommend trying it once and if you love it, there are reusable options! This will save you money in the long run and it's also great for the environment.

So the next time you are surfing the crimson wave, check out these products and let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading,

Kelly
